Hey, I know that building!
During last night’s insomnia, I peeked at the DC Library’s online catalog and discovered I could check out a particular bread book I’m curious about. Except I couldn’t place an online hold, because I didn’t know the PIN for my account. One of the two available copies of the book was listed at the MLK branch downtown, and other business was going to take me to the neighborhood so I dropped in today.
My first stop was at the service desk, to update my physical address and get my PIN for online use. Except it turned out my account was gone, even though I had last used it less than two years ago (presumably it was lost in the purge linked above). They reactivated my account, updated my address, told me my PIN, and I went to a terminal so I could locate the book I came for …
… and the CityCat system at the library said it was already on hold. I found its subject heading on the shelf and checked out a different book instead, placing a hold on the one I wanted before I left. The online tool for my account says I’m first in the hold queue. But still: feh.
