Sadly, sold out already.  D’oh.  And Aperture Priority, bitches, that’s how one orients this dial.

I use Program mode more than any other, but Aperture Priority probably comes in second place for me.  But I’m commenting mostly because the dial on my original Digital Rebel is reversed from what’s shown here, with the selected item on the left and not the right. I hadn’t realized they’d changed that orientation in other models.

This. This is why I’m so angry about this printer not working. Office Space was released ten years ago, immortalizing both the frustration of a printer not working (“PC LOAD LETTER? What the fuck does that mean?”) and its eventual resolution with baseball bats and gangsta rap.

In ten years a lot of work has gone into things like Zeroconf (Apple calls it Bonjour) and network printing, and Canon’s piece of shit does actually show up on the network … it just fails to work.  There’s no automatic driver detection, no support for generic drivers, no simple driver download on their web site, no nothing.  You have to download a 22MB installer and install a utility that doesn’t even work (I’ve already deleted it; it said something about not being able to manage the printer over “this connection”), and after that you STILL CAN’T PRINT.

Seriously! Ten years after Office Space, Canon has released a printer that doesn’t work and produces only cryptic error messages. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I’m going to say this unequivocally: Canon printers suck. Do not buy them. It makes me sad because I love my Canon cameras and recommend them to anybody who asks (I’ve either directly or indirectly influenced at least a dozen purchases), but this appalling failure of both software and awareness is inexcusable.

This mystifying error message is just part of the giant bucket of FAIL that is the Canon ImageCLASS MF4370dn.  On my Mac the printer does show up via Bonjour, but there’s no driver for it, so you have to go download one from Canon’s web site.  And then you have to download not just a driver, but a 22 MB application installer.  And the installer doesn’t let you install just a driver.  And after all that?  It doesn’t work.
I thought scanner software was bad, but this? This is appalling.
