This is sort of an improvement in that the sleeve I already own (and like) is already basically perfect for this (it’s long discontinued so I can’t find a suitable image). The problem is that the TSA and the airlines want to count bags, instead of counting volume and/or hassle.
When I travel I have a laptop and a camera bag that have to come with me on the plane or else I’ll never see them again. I’d be ecstatic to have a properly sized rolling bag, the sleeve, and my 4 Million Dollar Home. The sleeve and the Crumpler would comfortably sit underneath the seat in front of me, and the rolling bag would go into the overhead bin.
Except because they insist on counting the number of items, and in this scenario that’s “three,” this means one more item than they wish to allow. There is no word to describe this other than “stupid.” A small camera bag and a simple laptop sleeve are functionally equivalent to a “personal item” but that’s not the way the system works.
Fie on them, I say. Fie!
